Xi Phi History

In 1984, Theta Tau chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho was expanded at Utica College of Syracuse University. Throughout the years, the Utica College chapter had been a colony of Syracuse University. With increased membership on the Utica Campus there was a desire to establish independency from Theta Tau.
This desire for independence came to fruition with the help of four determined young ladies. On April 13,1996, Xi Phi chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc was chartered by four courageous young ladies Lashanda Adams, Nichola Selby, Catherine Warren, and Tamecha Morgan (Omega Rho).
In the picture above the 4 charter members are joined with two Theta Tau sorors, truly exhibiting the close bonds of sisterhood that spanned the two universities. These deep connections have strengthened this sisterhood and continues to this day.
The Illustrious ladies of Xi Phi chapter are proud of the legacy we have created. We will continue to promote "Greater Service, Greater Progress" at Utica College and the surrounding community, truly fulfilling the dreams of our seven beloved founders.

"Greek life was foreign to me until I arrived to UC. After experiencing the camaraderie and spirit of cooperation between members of sororities and fraternities', I researched these unique organizations and became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho. This was an empowering experience and, despite the great memories made as an undergraduate, I did not know that the best years of Greek life were in front of me. Twenty one years later this affiliation continues to open doors, polish my leadership skills, and nurture bonds."

"There are so many reasons I hold this sisterhood so dear, but what stands out most are the lifelong relationships I have gained from this experience. These bonds continue to evolve and grow as the years go by and we pass down our traditions old and new. We hold dear the QUALITY and not the QUANTITY of every member. Sigma women are boundless! They are creative, independent, open-minded, strong, collaborative, goal oriented, intelligent and true leaders!"
